take the 12 step live clean challenge
In this section we offer tips, advice and ideas for making eco-conscious choices in your life. Going green doesn't have to mean making sweeping changes. Incorporate these 12 simple steps to “live cleaner” in your daily life. Add one small change at a time and you will be amazed at the significant change you have made by the end of a year.
Below you will find the first step. Every month we will post new steps in the 12 step live clean challenge so check back regularly for updates.
Step 1: Conserving Water in the Home
Conserving water is a great way to help the planet as well as save you money on your water bill. Here are some tips to reduce water usage in your home.
Don’t leave the water running when brushing your teeth
When doing the dishes by hand don't let the water run to rinse instead try filling one side of the sink with the washing water and the other side with rinsing water.
Designate one glass for your drinking water each day or refill a water bottle. This will cut down on the number of glasses to wash.
Fix leaks promptly. Toilets, showers and taps can waste a lot of water due to leaks and drips.
Use a water-efficient showerhead. They're inexpensive, easy to install, and can save you up to 2,839 litres a month.
If you have an older toilet, installing a displacement device in the tank will reduce the amount of water used with each flush.
If you are ready for a bigger challenge - install a low-flow toilet. They use only 6 litres per flush, compared to 13 litres per flush for pre-1994 models.
Conservation Tip
Choose a front loading versus a top loading laundry machine it saves energy and uses about 40% less water.
